Westerly Project: A Showcase of Craftsmanship & Innovation
Introduction
At AVI Roofing, we strive to provide not only reliable and trustworthy service, but also to elevate roofing as you know it. The Westerly Project in Erie, Colorado, is more than your everyday construction project, it’s a testament to design excellence and AVI's superior craftsmanship. This new-build community hub required a roofing and siding solution that could withstand Colorado’s demanding climate while elevating the architectural appeal of the area. AVI Roofing rose to the challenge, delivering a multi-system installation including snow guard and gutter systems that blend technical complexity with visual allure.
Why Asphalt Was the Perfect Choice
When it comes to roofing solutions, there are many options to consider. For this specific project asphalt shingles were selected for their unmatched versatility and proven performance. GAF Timberline HDZ shingles offer dimensional beauty and durability, perfectly complementing the modern design of the amenities building. Installed over a synthetic underlayment with Ice & Water Barrier at all critical points, this system ensures superior protection against ice damming and water infiltration. This is essential for Colorado’s freeze-thaw cycles and rapid temperature fluctuation. Asphalt’s adaptability allows seamless integration with adjacent metal and TPO roofing systems, meeting stringent code and manufacturer specifications while providing long-term reliability and peace of mind.
Beauty Meets Function
From an aerial perspective, Westerly is a visual masterpiece. The dimensional texture of GAF HDZ shingles contrasts beautifully with the sleek lines of standing seam metal panels, creating a harmonious blend of traditional and contemporary aesthetics. The symmetry of the structures, crisp metal accents, and integrated snow retention system enhance both form and function. Paired with modern metal siding and a carefully curated color palette, the result is an upscale, inviting space that elevates the community’s architectural landscape.
What Makes This Project Distinctive
Unlike typical roofing projects, Westerly required the integration of three distinct systems: asphalt shingles, Berridge standing seam metal panels, and Mule-Hide TPO membrane. Each system came with unique technical requirements and warranty standards. For example, Berridge’s Water-Tight Warranty demanded continuous rib attachment and vinyl weather seals along every rib length; a detail rarely seen in standard installations. Add custom drainage solutions, snow retention systems, and meticulous flashing details, and it’s clear why this project stands as a benchmark of AVI's craftsmanship.
Overcoming Challenges with Asphalt
As always, Colorado’s harsh winters posed significant challenges, including heavy snow loads and freeze-thaw cycles. Asphalt shingles proved essential in overcoming these obstacles. The installation of Ice & Water Barrier at eaves, valleys, and roof-to-wall transitions provided superior protection against water intrusions. Synthetic underlayment added an extra layer of defense. Integrating asphalt with metal and TPO systems required precise flash detailing to maintain water-tight integrity. The result? A roofing solution that exemplifies durability, reliability, and peace of mind.
