Behind the Scenes: MHL & Make-a-wish

Throughout our partnership with Denver 7, AVI Roofing has been given some wonderful opportunities. On July 31st, we were invited to join Make-A-Wish Colorado for a special segment of Mile High Living. In this segment, we were able to sit down with representatives from Wish Colorado, as well as Kaden Livesay- a Wish Kid who had his wish granted and is now raising funds to help grant the wishes of other children, too!

Our own Reece Pennington, who works in Business Intelligence, sat down with Sarah Grosh from Wish Colorado and Danielle Kreutter from Denver 7 as additional guests. Host Sam Boik was lovely, as always. The group discussed Wish Colorado and the incredible work they do for kids in our communities. After a short commercial break Sam, Reece, and Sarah were joined by Kaden and his mother Lisa. Kaden is currently raising funds for Make-A-Wish Colorado and has already surpassed his initial goal. If you would like to help Kaden continue raising money to help him meet his new goal, you can do so here!

Reece has had the opportunity to meet two Wish Kids at Denver 7 now, the first being Conrad who was on set back in April when we just so happened to be scheduled for the same day as Conrad’s segment about his incredible work raising over $70,000 for Wish Colorado. Read more about our run-in with Conrad & Scott, the CEO of Wish Colorado, here. And for this special segment he got to meet Kaden, the wish hero who is raising money after having his own wish granted - going to Disney World! Kaden is Mickey Mouses’ biggest fan, and he was so excited to finally meet him! Reece said about getting to meet and talk with them both “Meeting them makes the mission feel personal and real.”

When asked how he prepares for segments when he knows he will be meeting special guests like Wish Kids, he said, “A big part of preparing is learning about the Wish Kid we’ll be featuring. Hearing their journey and what they’ve overcome is incredibly inspiring. These kids show so much bravery and strength, and it’s impossible not to be moved by their stories. We also talk with the Mile High Living team about how to share that story in a way that really honors them and their family.” AVI is thrilled to be represented by someone who takes such consideration when preparing to handle such personal and special stories.

“It was exciting but also a little nerve-wracking because you want to represent the story well. I spent time thinking about the most important moments to share and how to make them connect with the audience. Once the cameras started rolling, it felt more like a genuine conversation and that’s when the nerves turned into excitement.” He said, about how he prepares for a segment that is so different from those he has been involved in before.

Overall, we are honored to be a sponsor for such a wonderful cause, and we are thankful for every opportunity to highlight the life-changing work that Make-A-Wish Colorado does every day. Check out photos from our time at the studio below and find the first half of the segment with Danielle and the second half of the segment with Kaden and his mom!
